A Letter from alumni Ken Raymond '68 and Patricia (Hanlon '75) Raymond

To Our Fellow Smitties,

The past month has tested our community in new and unimaginable ways. All members of the Smitty community are in our thoughts as we combat these tumultuous times. To lift each other up and support one another in new and different ways, PSC has created the Smitties Persist Fund – to respond to our community’s needs in a time of crisis.

Today we are calling upon our fellow alumni to support our students and our PSC community in their time of need. Patricia and I pledge $100,000 to help our college, community and students. Therefore, we will match your gift dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 allowing your gift to have twice the impact. This match will run through #GivingTuesdayNow which will take place on May 5th, 2020.

As part of our gift, we would also like to collect messages of support for our graduating senior class; these seniors will and are encountering a number of challenges in unchartered territory: from securing a job after graduation to feeling supported and safe in their day-to-day lives, all while completing their studies in a virtual classroom. Proud Smitty traditions such as the annual Sugar Bush Breakfast and even Commencement – a culmination of years of hard work and dedication – like everything else, now need to take place virtually. No caps will be tossed in the air and there will be no handshakes as seniors can’t walk across the stage. As you complete your gift online, please share a message of hope or words of wisdom to the Paul Smith’s College Class of 2020 in the comment section.

Patricia and I share this message to Smitty Seniors: We are with you, today and every day forward. We are your community, and whether you need a job or advice on writing a resume, your community is here for you. Do not hesitate to reach out.

As always, thank you for your continued support during these uncertain times. And do not be afraid to reach out to anyone in our Paul Smith’s Community – Smitties persist and we do so together, as a community!

Thank you,

Ken Raymond '68 and Patricia (Hanlon '75) Raymond
